What's going on in Japan? (No.3)
NARA--About 34,000 people attended the first day of celebrations to mark the 1,300th anniversary of the establishment of the ancient capital of Japan at Heijo-kyo in present-day Nara on Saturday. Long lines gathered before the opening of a reconstructed Imperial Audience Hall and two pavilions designed to take visitors back to the area's eighth century heyday. The Association for Commemorative Events of the 1,300th Anniversary of Nara Heijo-kyo Capital expect 2.5 million visitors before Nov. 7, the end of the event. During the Golden Week holidays, 45,000 people a day are expected.
